The box is a small scale version of a traditional Japanese Tool Box. It features a unique latching mechanism that is a type of simple puzzle design because you must move or remove parts to gain access into the box.

The 9"l x 4.5" w x 2.5"h box is the perfect size for the dresser or bookcase to store jewelry and other knickknacks.

The box is made from locally grown Black Walnut from the Flintstone, MD area that was originally harvested in 1945 as part of the Marshal Plan after WW2 to help rebuild Germany by supply the wood for returning GI's who wanted to bring home Cuckoo Clocks. The remaining wood not shipped to Germany has been in storage for over 73 years at a local university's basement. The top is locally grown Curly Maple.

Handmade by craftsman Peter Pihos Jr. noted wood turner and furniture maker and co-founder of those famously cute, custom designed Milestone Cubes.

The box is finished in a special blend of boiled linseed oil and beeswax that accentuates the natural curl or wave pattern in the hard maple and darkens the rich beautiful grains of the black walnut.
