Item Size 4 3/4 x 3 1/8 x 2 3/8 Inches Created for IPP 18 in Tokyo, Japan, 1998 Although the surface of this box is not covered with yosegi marquetry like most Japanese trick boxes, its beauty is in its mechanism. As can be seen in the bottom photograph, it finally opens like most Japanese trick boxes, but getting to this point is not at all what you would expect. All the normal sliding moves seem to work, but ... The mechanism was recreated for the Karakuri Secret Box 3 “Popping Up” in 2003, also by Hideto Satou. |
