Description
I have limited historical information about this object, which was perhaps invented in Europe more than 120 years ago.
This version was made by ArteGiocando. It consists of a small wooden stick with notches along most of its length; at one end is a propeller free to spin in either direction, and at the other is a cord with a small wooden paddle tied to its end.
Goal
The goal of the puzzle is to rub the paddle against the notched stick to create vibrations that make the propeller spin. Furthermore, the propeller can be made to change direction without any apparent change in movement—how is this possible? The objective is to figure this out and master the technique.
