In Hakone Himitsubako, the moving parts that slide along the grooves are called "aruki," which translates to "walk" in English.
In this particular work, the "aruki" moves in an unconventional direction. It might be easiest to understand by comparing it to the "New Secret Box" (NS-1-2), a design created by the Karakuri Creation Group. Because this unique movement reminded me of the famous Moonwalk dance step, I decided to name the puzzle after it. To prevent the lid from accidentally sliding open mid-solve, I integrated a brand-new mechanism into one specific spot. I hope you enjoy discovering and experiencing how this new mechanism works! |
