Auction site stats
by jxn • 2 months ago
Maybe show some stats on the various auction sites? Does the same puzzle show different values on different sites? How many auctions have been conducted on each site? How many in the last twelve months? This probably comes down to PP vs. Nick Baxter, but I'm still curious to see the results.

Add user-selectable additional info fields
by CoreMods • 2 months ago
Besides generic info fields that apply to all puzzles, add the ability for users to add additional info fields when creating a listing that can contain other helpful pieces of info that don't apply to all categories of puzzles. Also, when creating a puzzle in a given category, allow the site to automatically add additional info fields when they apply to whole categories but not all puzzles (IE twisty puzzles have many interesting mathematical data points such as "God's Number", and the "Devil's Number" which specify the maximum number of moves from solved and the number of moves required to reach all states respectively). Allow some price specifiers for free puzzles
by CoreMods • 2 months ago
Puzzles that are not sold in any way or not directly sold (promos) should be able to have this information specified. The price would essentially count as 0 for the purposes of sorting or math, but would be labelled with speficif strings. For instance "Free" may apply to puzzles that are freely available to download and 3D print with no option to buy. "Promo" may apply to puzzles given away with other purchases like a toy in a kid's meal or at an event with still no option to purchase it after the fact.

Strategies help page
by CoreMods • 2 months ago
Add a help info page with general strategies for solving certain genres of mechanical puzzles. No specific spoilers, but good for when someone needs a push into the right line of thinking. For instance one could write a general strategy for 3D packing puzzles that includes things along the lines of "try constructing the figure outside the frame if applicable" or "Count the voxels and determine if gaps will be present".

Add a help page of common non-puzzles with explinations
by CoreMods • 2 months ago
It may be nice to have a page for common "not a puzzles". A short write-up with pictures and examples and explanations of why certain things are not puzzles, but may sometimes be confused with one. For example many lotto pickers, marble machines, and do-nothings are misidentified as some kind of puzzle. Have a small paragraph identifying each type of non-puzzle, with a small list of photo examples (possibly sourced from the community).

Sort Categories into Subgroups
by CoreMods • 2 months ago
Puzzle categories should be grouped under major categories in the selector for ease of use and backend improvement. For example, general categories like "Interlocking" act as the parent group for "Board Burr", "Burr", "Coordinate Motion" and "TIC". This has the added benefits of improving categorical search reliability and matching better the generally accepted mechanical puzzle categorization schemes used globally. See category layout here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1oBdwkw25perWuMIxyUHANJSo_Al13p0Xixj_qijgkNU/edit?tab=t.0

Sort Materials into Subgroups
by CoreMods • 2 months ago
Materials should be sorted in the selector from general to specific with major groups acting as containers for specific examples of such materials. IE: Plastic acts as a parent material with the children PLA, ABS, Nylon 12, LEGO. Metal acts as a parent material for brass, aluminum, stainless steel, etc. This has the added benefit of improving search results as in this example: I am looking for a plastic puzzle by material, but it is specified in the database to be PLA, searching for plastic will show all child materials as well, allowing me to find the plastic puzzle I was looking for.

Help identify puzzles where the name and designer is unknown
by BrassMonkeySteve • 4 weeks ago
Add a standalone feature where I can upload pictures of puzzles where I do not remember the name of the designer nor the name so that others can help identify them. This could be by connecting them to an existing PuzzBuzz entry or turning them into a new entry and adding the extra details. It appears I bought quite a few puzzles from Ebay in the late nineties and early noughties while under the influence of alcohol :)

Add Puzzle ID or PuzzBuzz URL to My collection Export
by BrassMonkeySteve • 1 month ago
a URL in the exported spreadsheet would be nice so that I can sort/filter in spreadsheet and clink on links back to the relevant PuzzBuzz page Thanks Steve

Changing the maker/material of puzzles without creating new entries?
by Iambriang • 1 month ago
Maybe add a way to go through My Collection and change (for example) a bunch of Pelikan made wood puzzles to self-made 3d printed ones? When I started putting all my puzzles into puzzbuzz, I didn't care at the time if I was accurate about the material and maker, I just wanted a database of the puzzles I owned... Situations like the Secret Santa has me thinking that an outsider looking at my collection will think I have some amazing collection instead of the 90% self printed collection I really have. I'd hate to have to create tons of new entries into the database to accomplish this.

Series grouping/list
by Rywdb • 1 month ago
Maybe if certain puzzles are part of a series, you can add them that way Essentially its another tag, but you can search it up, maybe it doesn't need to be intentionally categorized, but something you could write down and it works similar to when you're adding puzzles and it says "That puzzle may already exist" but instead its with the series

Lego Category
by Rywdb • 1 month ago
I think in the quality section, it should say "3D printed/Lego" Since both 3D printing and lego are int he same gcategory of accessibility. Or another idea is to give lego its own category
